The LitterQuit Project

Don't be Bitter, Stop the Litter!

 Mission

The LitterQuit Project is committed to raising awareness about the social and environmental impacts of littering through education, community engagement, and action-based initiatives. We aim to inform, inspire, and empower individuals to practice proper waste disposal, promote accountability, and contribute to building a cleaner and healthier society.

Vision

The LitterQuit Project envisions a clean, disciplined, and environmentally responsible community where individuals understand the impact of their actions and actively choose to protect the environment for present and future generations.

Littering and improper waste disposal continue to be major environmental challenges in Cebu City. As the city grows in population, business activity, and urban development, the amount of waste produced daily has also increased. Recent data shows that Cebu City generates more than 700 tons of waste per day, showing a steady increase over the years.

To address this issue, Cebu City has strengthened waste management efforts such as stricter waste segregation rules and the enforcement of the “No Segregation, No Collection” policy, which requires residents to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste before disposal.  Recent improvements in recycling and waste processing have already helped reduce daily trash output by around 50 tons, showing that proper waste practices can make a real difference.

The LitterQuit Project was created to support Cebu’s environmental efforts by focusing on awareness, education, and action against littering. The project aims to encourage individuals, especially students and community members, to practice proper waste disposal, reduce plastic use, and participate in clean-up and environmental activities. By promoting responsible habits and community cooperation, the LitterQuit Project helps contribute to Cebu’s goal of creating a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment for future generations.

Why is LitterQuit important?

LitterQuit Project is important because littering is not just about trash on the ground—it is a serious social and environmental issue that affects everyone. Improper waste disposal can cause flooding due to clogged drainage systems, spread diseases through polluted surroundings, and harm wildlife that mistake plastic for food. These problems directly impact community health, safety, and quality of life.

LitterQuit exists to raise awareness and help people understand the cause and effect of littering. By educating individuals and encouraging responsible habits, the project promotes accountability and discipline within the community. When people are informed and involved, they are more likely to take action.

Ultimately, LitterQuit is important because real change starts with awareness. Through education, community engagement, and simple everyday actions, we can reduce littering and build a cleaner, safer, and more responsible society for future generations.
